In Brazil, the MaracanĂ£ stadium hosted the presentation ceremony of his prodigal son, Marcelo. The Brazilian player spoke in front of more than 35,000 people recounting his debut as a player for Fluminense, where he began his career 17 years ago.

“It’s the best moment of my life, I’m coming home. Thank you all! I’m very, very, very happy! Being here with you is the dream I’ve always carried with me. I also have other dreams, that of putting on the Fluminense shirt again, feeling like a warrior again, and fighting for all the trophies. I’m sure we’re going to have a wonderful year.” declared

At 34 and after a stint at Olympiakos in Greece, the left-back arrives as the team’s first reinforcement. In 15 years, he has totaled 25 trophies.

Trained locally, he made his debut for Fluminense in 2005 before being signed by Real Madrid. It will be the first time that Marcelo will play in the biggest competition in South America, the Copa Libertadores where he will rub shoulders with other great players who have evolved in Europe such as Filipe Luis, David Luiz, or his teammates Felipe Melo and Ganso.
