On Tuesday, a French court of law affirmed that a case brought against the multinational oil company named “TotalEnergies(TTEF.PA)” over its contentious oil projects in Tanzania and Uganda was inadmissible.

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline and the Tilenga oil development are the two projects in question in the case, which was filed by six French and Ugandan activist groups. They accuse the French company of “not doing enough to safeguard people and the environment in the two projects at issue.”, from their sides, Both TotalEnergies and the plaintiff organizations were silent at the time of writing.

Addressing the issue, the activists sought the French court of law in a landmark action based on a 2017 French law that holds large businesses accountable for dangers to the environment and human rights to order “TotalEnergies” to immediately cease the east African projects.

The French court, however, denied the request, stating that only a judge who carefully considered the issue could determine whether the allegations against TotalEnergies were true and then move on to an audit of actual activities.
