In the commercial center of Lagos State, where the largest metropolis in Africa is situated, contender for the presidency of Nigeria Peter Obi, whose campaign drew young people and urban voters tired of corrupt politicians, won the majority of votes.

The victor of the race to become the next president of Nigeria is not expected to be disclosed for a few days, but on Sunday (26 February), states started making announcements about the national election results.

According to figures released on Monday by the electoral commission, Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos, received 572,606 votes, almost edging out Obi of the Labour Party, who was running for governor. Before, Tinubu’s primary base of support was Lagos.

The People’s Democratic Party, which is the primary opponent, received 75,750 votes for Atiku Abubakar.

Two political parties who have ruled Africa’s most populous country for a quarter century, and whose rule has allowed corruption and insecurity to thrive across the country, have been urged by voters to reject ‘Obi’s campaign.
