After some violence and criminal attacks on the offices of the electoral commission in the run-up to the elections, the chairman of the electoral commission of Nigeria, Mahmood Yakubu has come out with a statement to reassure the public ahead of the presidential and legislative elections.

Mr. Yakubu promised that security will be assured during the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for Saturday.

In this regard, the official said facilities, voters, media, and staff will be secured.

Similarly, Mr. Yakubu explained how complex the electoral operation is because there are 18 candidates for president. Thus, the electoral population is greater than the number of registered voters in all the countries in the West African region, which makes the operation challenging.
