Tackling famine: Linda Thomas-Greenfield calls on donors to help Somalia

The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, on a visit to Mogadishu, held a meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Ms. Thomas-Greenfield, with the aim of consolidating efforts to prevent a new episode of famine in the spring of 2023.

As part of this visit, she called on the international community and donors to provide immediate assistance to Somalia, which is facing famine, knowing that the United States provided, last year, the aid of 1.3 billion dollars to Somalia.

Similarly, the US representative to the United Nations said the US would provide more than $40 million in funding to address humanitarian needs in Somalia.

The goal of the US Africa tour is to forge strategic partnerships with African countries and strengthen economic ties with the continent.
