Nigeria: Uzodinma Urges Use of Technology to Protect Forests

The Imo State Governor of Nigeria, Hope Uzodinma, represented by the State Commissioner for Digital Economy, Chimezie Amadi, gave a statement on Thursday, at the inaugural program of the Imo State Command of the Nigerian Hunters and Forestry Security Service (NHFSS) held at the Youth Centre.

Hope Uzodinma proposed the use of technological solutions for forest management in Nigeria to combat criminal activities in the forests.

In this regard, Uzodinma noted the need to use what he called the digital forest, deploying new technologies for forest security, adding that the initiative will also create millions of jobs for the youth.

On his part, the Commanding General of the NHFSS, Ambassador Dr. Osetimehim Joshua commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in the fight against crime and terrorism in the country, adding that the NHFSS is ready to assist in the fight against illegal activities in the forests.

Similarly, the Commanding General solicited the support of Governor Hope Uzodinma to expedite the signing of the NHFSS Bill by President Buhari to equip the service with the necessary legal and operational tools to protect the forests from abuse.
