France has convened the ambassador of Burkina Faso for consultations on bilateral cooperation. This comes after the announcement of the departure of French special forces within “one month”, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The French ministry said in a statement that this convocation comes in the context of recent developments in Burkina Faso, to discuss the state and future of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. It should be recalled that the French ambassador, Luc Hallade was posted in Ouagadougou in the summer of 2019.

The affair dates back to December when the Burkinabe junta had asked Paris to replace Ambassador Luc Hallade, reproaching him for having publicly declared the deterioration of the security situation in the country, which is prey to jihadist violence.

Furthermore, the Burkinabe government denounced a few days ago the 2018 agreement on the status of French forces present in the country. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs had formally received this denunciation.
