A police source in Cameroon has announced that a popular journalist of the Yaounde-based radio station “Amplitude FM”, named Martinez Zogo, has been found dead after he went missing a few days ago.

The editor of the station where the journalist worked, Charly Tchouemou told the media that he went to Ebogo (15 kilometers north of Yaounde) early this morning where he recognized the body of Martinez Zogo, in the presence of the prosecutor and his wife who were there to recognize the body.

Charly Tchouemou added that the body of the journalist was discovered by a man who was going to the fields and it was he who alerted the gendarmerie. The body was then taken to the morgue of the Yaounde Central Hospital.

An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of his disappearance and death, which remain unclear.

The journalist in question was at the same time director general of the radio station where he worked.

Denouncing a “heinous murder”, the National Union of Journalists of Cameroon expressed its “consternation” in a statement, calling on media professionals to mourn on 25 January.
