17 years after its last national census, Nigeria decided to start the census at the end of March in order to obtain updated data on the population and the size of the different ethnic groups.

The United Nations predicts that Nigeria’s population will double by 2050 to more than 200 million people, which would make the country the third most populous country in the world.

The latest statistics in Nigeria have been discredited after the disputes between the Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo ethnic groups.

The importance of this census figures in Nigeria is the sharing of oil revenues and political representation.
