Official data from the South African Bureau of Statistics revealed on Tuesday that mining production in South Africa has fallen by 9%, given that mining is one of the country’s main industries.
The main mining products most affected were iron (-19.4%), diamonds (-21.5%) and platinum group metals (-22%).
Similarly, the data reflected a reduction in seasonally adjusted mine production of 0.4%.
Mine production in the last quarter of 2022 ending in November declined by 1.9% compared to the previous quarter, despite the corrections made by seasonal variations.
This decline was not only in mining production but also in the sale of mining products, which fell by 15.2%.
