The Confederation of African Football revealed that it will open an investigation into the anti-Moroccan statements at the opening of the “Chan”.

The anti-Moroccan statements came from the Algerian fans, as well as the grandson of Nelson Mandela.

The CAF statement affirmed that its statutes and regulations and FIFA’s regulations refrains from engaging in politics and remains neutral in matters of a political nature.

The same statment make it clear that the political statements do not represent CAF and do not reflect the view or opinion of CAF as a politically neutral organisation.

The CAF will conduct investigations to determine whether and to what extent the political statements and events of the CHAN Opening Ceremony violate the Statutes and Regulations of CAF and FIFA, according to the statement.
The grandson of Mandela, who is loyal to the regime of Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had called for a “war” against Morocco, in support of the separatist Polisario Front, which prompted the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to protest and write to the Confederation of African Football in order to open an investigation into the matter.
