A source in the Senegalese Ministry of Justice announced on Thursday the inauguration of the electronic bracelet system, placing for the first time two defendants under electronic bracelets, in order to release the detention centers.

Senegal is the first West African country to inaugurate the center in charge of monitoring people on electronic bracelets, in mid-November, after parliamentary approval of the law allowing the introduction of electronic bracelets as an alternative to prison in 2020.

This device was used by the court of Pikine-Guédiawaye. These two people who are under electronic bracelet are accused of “criminal association, attempted fraud and use of forgery in an administrative document”, knowing that investigations will continue in this case, according to the daily newspaper L’Observateur.
