At least 600 Malians are in distress in Assamaka, northern Niger, said Alhamdou Ag Ilyene, the Minister of Malians Abroad and African Integration.

Alhamdou Ag Ilyene said that “some of them have appealed for assistance through social media”.

The same source points out that “the Government, through the Ministry in charge of Malians living abroad, has sent a subsistence fund to meet the urgent needs of our compatriots in food and medicine for a period of twenty (  20) days in addition to the support provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM)”.

“The Government undertakes to repatriate them to Mali as soon as conditions permit,” he said before committing “to keep the Malian people informed of any new developments in the situation of these 600 Malians”.
