In Mozambique, the Institute of Meteorology warns this Friday of the risks of heavy rains accompanied by damaging winds and thunderstorms in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane, the populations of these cities are invited to evacuate them to evade finding themselves trapped by floods. Rainfall of up to 50 millimetres in 24 hours is expected.

Mozambique is considered one of the African countries most affected by the effects of climate change, rains have already caused flooding in agricultural fields, destroying hectares, according to the most recent data from the National Directorate of water resource management.

Last November, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction announced that it needed just over $115 million for the 2022/2023 rainy season, a period in which at least 2.2 million people are expected to be affected by these bad weather.
