Cristiano Ronaldo has just signed with Saudi club Al Nassr, but made a mistake during his official presentation in Riyadh on Tuesday, mistakenly saying he had “come to South Africa”.

The Portuguese may have been disoriented by the whirlwind of his arrival at his new club, which saw him fly to Saudi Arabia on Monday night, before undergoing a medical the following morning and being greeted by thousands of cheering supporters at Al Nassr’s Mrsool Park stadium.

“For me, it’s not the end of my career to come to South Africa,” Ronaldo told a press conference before stepping onto the pitch at the 25,000-seat stadium. “I really don’t care what people say. I’ve made my decision and I have a responsibility to change it, but for me, I’m really, really happy to be here.”

After what was clearly a mistake, Ronaldo went on to outline his reasons for joining Al Nassr and said he had turned down ‘many clubs’ around the world to complete one of the most surprising transfers in history.
