2022 was a year in which African footballers shone in all competitions, including CAN, the European Championship, the Champions League, and the World Cup held in Cameroon from January to February.

It is often difficult to let go of 11 African players who have played throughout the year, and such selections are never unanimous. In any case, at the end of each year, Africa SPORTS assembled the quintessential African Team of the Year.

A big surprise is the absence of Edouard Mendy who attended last year. Chelsea’s porter saw Morocco’s Yassine Bounou settle for 11 goals. In defence, Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal), Romain Sais and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi are active.

The third Moroccan in the team settled in the middle. Sofyan Amrabat forms one infernal trident with Thomas Partey (Ghana) and the Zambo Anguissa (Cameroon). Classic front! Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt) split the sides first. And on the attack, Vicent Aboubakar (Cameroon), CAN 2021’s top scorer and for the Indomitable Lions in Qatar 2022, will link up with the inevitable Victor Osimhen (Nigeria). Walid Regragui (Morocco) has made it clear that he has been named the Team of the Year and Coach for great Africa.
