Niger: 3 dead in a military helicopter crash and an investigation is opened

A helicopter MI-17 of the Nigerien Armed Forces, crashed yesterday while landing on the military runway of the international airport of Niamey, on its return from a training flight, leaving 3 crew members dead, reported the Nigerien Ministry of Defence.

The ministry statement added that an investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the accident.

With logistical and military training support from the United States, France, Germany and Belgium, Niger is preparing its army to fight jihadist violence on its territory.

The army continues to fight terrorists who threaten the security of its territory. Indeed, several parts of the territory are facing jihadist threats: Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (EI) group are present in the west, close to Mali and Burkina Faso. Jihadists from Boko Haram and its ISWAP branch are present in the southeast bordering Lake Chad and Nigeria.
