The Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema, kept his promise and abolished the death penalty.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the presidency indicates that President Hakainde Hichilema “approved the penal code of 2022 which abolishes the death penalty“.

In addition to the abolition of this law, the Head of State also invalidated the law prohibiting defamation of the President of the Republic, A news that has aroused great reactions from human rights defenders.
