The Africa Intelligence website revealed that Morocco is seeking to host the 2025 African Cup, as it submitted a “huge and strong” file to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The officials of the Executive Office within the Confederation of African Football, who were present in Qatar as part of the 2022 World Cup activities, discussed the Moroccan file before sending it to the “CAF” headquarters in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, according to the same source.

Moreover, the website confirmed that Morocco has sought to host the African Cup of Nations since the announcement of the withdrawal of hosting from Guinea.

Details from the website showed that some Moroccan ministers travelled across Africa to promote their country’s candidacy.

These Moroccan officials were able to meet the presidents of all the countries they visited, namely Botswana, Sierra Leone, Niger, Mali, Somalia, Djibouti, Comoros, Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Uganda.

These countries have representatives in the CAF Executive Committee, and therefore they are able to tip the balance in favour of Morocco, to host the 2025 African Cup, according to Africa Intelligence.
