A rail line from Tanzania to neighbouring countries in 2026

TANZANIA

China and Tanzania have signed partnership agreements that will enable the creation of a railway that will link Tanzania with some of its neighbours.

The value of the partnership signed by the Tanzanian government and Chinese companies CCECC and CRCC is $2.2 billion.

The network which has a total length of 2561 kilometres will connect the port of Dar es Salaam to Mwanza on Lake Victoria, while the subsequent establishment of the railway will extend to Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.

The completion of the railway line is scheduled for completion 9 years after the start of construction in 2026, According to the Tanzanian president.
