The Nigeria Police Force has denied a video posted on social media showing residents of the Wadata area of Makurdi taking out bags of rotten naira notes.

A statement issued by the Benue State Police Command promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, explaining that the hidden naira notes were recovered from the Wadata Police Barracks, saying it was money discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The same statement detailed that the investigation found the wasted papers in a shop in Wadata of its owner, Isah Suleiman, who justified the situation by presenting a license issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for waste management. Therefore the investigation will be extended to the CBN for confirmation.
