An investigation has been launched following the discovery of the bodies of 27 migrants, probably Ethiopian, ” dead of hunger and exhaustion”.

The Zambian police announced on Sunday that the migrants who were found in Lusaka are “aged between 20 and 38 years” in the capital Lusaka.

The bodies were discovered by residents at around 04:00 GMT. One person still alive among the bodies found was rushed to hospital. The other bodies were taken to the morgue for identification and autopsy.

Zambia is considered a bridge for East African migrants wishing to go illegally to South Africa.
