The national team achieved a historic qualification to the semi-finals of the World Cup competitions, after beating its Portuguese counterpart, 1-0, in a match hosted by “Al-Thumama” stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The only goal in the match was scored by striker Youssef Al-Nusairi, who took advantage of a perfect cross from Yahya Atiyatallah, to put the ball into the net, announcing the first goal.

The Portuguese national team came down heavily in the second half, through several attempts in which the Lions’ defence was bullied, and they kept their persistence until Argentine referee Tello Facono announced a historic qualification.

Therefore, the national team will be the first African and Arab team to reach the golden square, waiting for the winner in the France-England match.
