Organizations representing 79 countries from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific held their penultimate meeting on Friday in Angola’s capital Luanda.

This is the 10th Summit of Heads of State held by the OACPS and the first of his three held by Angola under a rotating Presidency.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Three Continents, Three Oceans, One Common Destiny: Building a Resilient and Sustainable OACPS”.

Angola has decided to focus on pressing issues of climate change and good governance, including combating corruption.

According to the World Bank, “future sea levels are projected to rise by 10 to 100 centimetres by 2100,” so entire countries could be submerged.

The island nation just joined the OACPS this year but is desperate for international help to counter the threat.

European Union President Charles Michel and UN Secretary-General António Guterres were also scheduled to attend the summit.
