On the sidelines of the 9th High-Level Conference on Peace and Security in Africa, which has been held since Wednesday in Oran, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix said on Thursday that the growth of terrorist activity in some African countries is linked to the illegal exploitation of rare raw materials in the manufacture of electric cars and some digital technology supplies, giving the example of “the recent discovery of mines made with rare resources in Mali and in the Sahel region”.

In the same matter, Jean-Pierre Lacroix called for “the need to intensify the control of these resources”.
In addition, Jean-Pierre Lacroix held talks with the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra about the evolution of the situation at the continental level and the prospects for strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations in the field of promoting peace and security on the African continent.
