The US State Department holds talks with the Personal Envoy for the Sahara conflict

The personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, held in the Italian capital, Rome, an official talks with the assistance of the Acting US Secretary of State in charge of Near East Affairs, Yael Lambert.

De Mistura and Lambert discussed the latest developments in the Sahara file in the light of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2654, as well as the efforts made by the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy, in order to make his recommendations on the issue of reviving the political process and finding a political settlement.

The meeting also discussed the UN efforts to advance the political process leading to a lasting and dignified solution to the Western Sahara conflict.
The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General had held a similar meeting with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, in which the two sides discussed the conflict based on the United Nations perception of its solution, at a time when Lamamra tried to promote the “imaginary war” and launch direct negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front.
