The new Director General of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) Abarry of Nigeria addressed the national and international press in Libreville last Thursday.

The main purpose of this first resignation of UN staff was to present to the media a clarification of UNOCA’s mandate. These tasks are grouped around three axes, that are conflict prevention, contributing to the peaceful resolution of crises, and peacebuilding.

Abarry, who replaced François lounceny of Guinea in this role, has just completed a mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Threatened by armed aggression, the country remains mired in UN peacekeeping operations. The latter has been regularly criticized for its “brief accounts” of the alleged abuse.
