Pakistan has called for strengthening economic relations with Morocco as part of its competition with the African market in search of a new partner.

During a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the Council of Advisers, The President of Pakistan’s Senate, “Mohamed Sadiq Sengrani”, suggested Moroccan investors explore economic opportunities in Pakistani territory, referring to the historic economic and diplomatic relations that unite his country with the Kingdom of Morocco.

Pakistan’s economic situation calls for a new lifeline. With inflation above 20 percent and rupee depreciation, Pakistanis are looking for ways to mitigate the dire consequences of the global crisis, along with the country’s floods, wreaking havoc on the state treasury. Therefore, Islamabad intends to strengthen relations with the African States, especially with Rabat.

Sengrani also noted the cooperation that his country wants to strengthen in various areas of defence and economic activities. The aim is to avoid some of the worst expectations made by Pakistan’s economic analysts.

Furthermore, the latest World Bank report predicts an expansion in poverty that could reach four points, translating into 20 percent of the country’s population of 220 million.
