On Thursday, October 27, 2022, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, started out the 11th edition of the International Date Fair in Morocco: SIDATTES 2022 in Erfoud.

An unmissable agricultural event, the international date show is back after two years of absence due to the Covid-19 health crisis. This edition, organized under the theme «Integrated management of natural resources: for the sustainability and resilience of the oasis ecosystem», focuses on the importance and role of oases and the challenges related to the preservation of natural resources for the sustainability of these territories, a real barrier against the advance of desertification.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, this event is «an extremely important meeting platform for professionals and for updating on the latest achievements and achievements of the sector in terms of technology and crop development».
The fair also highlights the date palm, which represents the backbone of oasis agriculture, a key sector for the economic and social development of these areas. «The green morocco plan gave an extremely important impulse for the extension of this value chain to reach a production of 140,000 to 150,000 tons on average annually», said the minister.
He added, The Green Generation strategy, which was launched by His Majesty the King in 2020, will continue the work and will focus on upgrading and planting 5 million trees, 3 million within the palm groves for densification and 2 million in the extension outside the palm groves».
