Qatar and Jordan renew their positive position on the Moroccan Sahara

A number of Arab countries renewed their affirmation and support for the initiative for autonomy in the sahara regions.

In this context, the State of Qatar affirmed, in New York, that the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco constitutes the basis for any realistic and sustainable solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

In his speech before the members in the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the representative of the State of Qatar affirmed the positiveness of his recent visit to the region, which was made by the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, expressing his country’s desire to reach a final and sustainable solution that serves the interests of all parties. It is in the interest of strengthening stability and cooperation in the region, as well as international peace and security.

In this context The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in New York, renewed its support for Morocco’s supremacy over its Sahara, stressing the “serious and realistic” of the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom of Morocco to reach a political solution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.

The Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations, Mahmoud Dhaifallah Al-Hamoud, affirmed that his country appreciates the positive engagement of the Kingdom Morocco to find a political solution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, through its submission of the autonomy initiative.

In this context, the Jordanian ambassador reiterated his country’s support for this initiative as a “serious and realistic” mechanism that takes into account the peculiarities of this region, the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its territory, and the integrity of its entire territory, in line with the Charter of the United Nations.
