In a decisive move following deadly student protests, Bangladesh has ordered a nationwide shutdown of its mobile internet network. This decision, confirmed by Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, comes in the wake of violent demonstrations that have resulted in at least nine fatalities.
“Yes, we have implemented this measure,” Palak stated to AFP, affirming the government’s action. He further elaborated that the shutdown was deemed necessary to “ensure the safety of citizens.”
