The electoral commission in Rwanda released partial results of the legislative elections on Tuesday night into Wednesday. Following Paul Kagame’s overwhelming victory with more than 99% of the vote, announced Monday evening just hours after the polls closed, the legislative majority vote further consolidates the dominance of the presidential party.

As expected, according to the initial legislative results, the coalition of the presidential party, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), remains largely dominant with over 62% of the votes.

Other historical parties, notably the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party, received nearly 11% and 9% of the votes, respectively. Allied formations of the RPF, including some leaders who are ministers, supported President Paul Kagame during the presidential election and accompanied him throughout his campaign meetings.

The two groups outside the coalition and allies, the PS Imberakuri and the Democratic Green Party garnered just over 5% of the votes, thus reaching the threshold required to secure seats in Parliament.

Following these proportional representation elections, the composition of the assembly is expected to change little compared to the one elected in 2018. The electoral commission has yet to announce the distribution of the number of deputies by political party.
