The Sudanese Ambassador to Chad departed from N’Djamena a month ago, according to a letter from the Sudanese embassy to Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs last month, only received on Friday, June 28th. Officially, this is not a recall but a temporary departure for a mission in Sudan. Despite Chad’s authorities denying any escalation, General al-Burhan’s army regularly accuses Chad of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by General Hemetti in the Sudanese civil war.

The letter from the Sudanese embassy, received by Chadian authorities on June 28, indicates that the Ambassador of Sudan to Chad has not been in N’Djamena since May 28th. Osman Mohamed Younis is on an official mission in Sudan, though details are scarce. During his absence, the chargĂ© d’affaires is managing the embassy.

Chadian authorities assert that this departure is due to an internal Sudanese issue and should not be seen as an escalation between the two countries. A diplomatic source, cited by the Sudanese press, mentioned that a detailed report on border security has been officially submitted by Sudan to the Chadian government.

General al-Burhan’s army suspects N’Djamena of being an ally of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is accused of actively supporting General Hemetti’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In March, Sudan blocked humanitarian aid from Chad, alleging that munitions destined for the RSF were being transported through Chad.

Between June and September 2023, around a hundred cargo flights connected Abu Dhabi to eastern Chad. However, Chad has consistently denied any involvement in this conflict.

This diplomatic exchange highlights the complex and tense relations in the region, where accusations and denials underscore the ongoing volatility. As both nations navigate these accusations, the international community watches closely, understanding that any perceived escalation could have broader implications for regional stability.
