The Cameroonian government, in a release on Wednesday, stated that it was putting in place new measures to help retain safeguards against the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the country, prompted by an observed resurgence of the cases in some European, Middle Eastern, and African countries.

According to the Cameroonian Minister of Health, all travelers coming from foreign countries will be obliged to fill in identification forms at the airports. COVID-19 testing will be reinstituted, with increased testing on travelers coming back from pilgrimage to Mecca during this period.

It, therefore, reinstates the tried and tested measures that had been put in place at the height of the pandemic. Among them are the use of masks in case of flu symptoms, hand hygiene, frequent disinfection of common areas.

Secondly, the government assures adequate capacity for case detection and offers free treatment to any person infected by the virus in different parts of the country.

The first case of COVID-19 was recorded in Cameroon in March 2020. According to the Ministry of Public Health, more than 1,974 lives have been lost from over 120,000 cases confirmed since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Cameroon will put into force these measures to reduce further virus transmission and be guaranteed public health safety by learning from past experiences and present best practices.
