The official campaign for Mauritania’s presidential election, scheduled for June 29th, began on June 14th. Seven candidates are in the race, including the incumbent president, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

Abdallahi Kebd, one of the spokespersons for Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, who is seeking a second term and whose party recently secured a sweeping majority in the legislative elections. According to Kebd, the paramount priority for the current president is the youth.

If re-elected, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani plans to establish a significant national agency, modeled after the Taazour Agency, which focuses on the most vulnerable populations. This new agency will coordinate the government’s cross-cutting efforts in training, employment, education, and financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, with a particular emphasis on young people.

“He will launch the creation of a large national agency, similar to the Taazour Agency which supports the most vulnerable, to coordinate all the cross-sectional government efforts in training, employment, education, and financing small and medium enterprises, with a focus on youth,” stated his spokesperson, Abdallahi Kebd, in an interview with Léa Breuil.

This initiative underscores Ghazouani’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the young population and ensuring their active participation in the country’s development.
