Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commanded the swift arrest of Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano. This announcement was made on Saturday through a statement by Sanusi Tofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity for the Kano Government House.

The governor accused Bayero of inciting tension within the state. The statement, titled “Gov. Yusuf Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero,” asserted that the former Emir was clandestinely brought into Kano city with the intention of forcefully reclaiming the palace, just two days after his deposition by the governor.

According to the statement, the newly appointed Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace accompanied by Governor Yusuf, the deputy governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and other high-ranking government officials at approximately 1 am on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has instructed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir immediately for disturbing public peace and attempting to undermine the relative tranquility that the state currently enjoys,” the statement read.

Bayero, whose location had been undisclosed since his deposition on Thursday, resurfaced in Kano on Saturday. This development follows the repeal of a law by the state House of Assembly, initially enacted by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on December 5, 2019.
