A series of collisions on Saturday morning around Iju bridge along the Ota-Idiroko road have left 17 individuals injured, with fortunately no fatalities reported. The incident involved three vehicles and a tricycle, resulting in chaos and disruption on the busy thoroughfare.

According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), excessive speed by the driver of a Sino truck led to the accident. Negotiating a bend near the Iju bridge, the truck driver lost control, initiating a chain reaction of collisions involving the other vehicles.

The vehicles involved were identified as a Mazda bus (AAA729YC), a Toyota Hiace bus (LND85YA), a Sino truck without a registration number, and a Bajaj tricycle (TTN58ND).

Fortunately, 15 individuals managed to escape unscathed, while the injured, comprising six male adults and eleven female adults, were promptly transported to the General Hospital in Ota for medical attention.

The FRSC swiftly conducted rescue operations at the accident site, which occurred at approximately 8:55 am on May 11, 2024, along the Ota-Idiroko route.

This latest incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced on Nigerian roads, emphasizing the need for motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and safeguard lives.

The road safety agency has reiterated its call for drivers to prioritize safety over speed, urging all road users to consider the well-being of others to mitigate the risk of crashes and associated casualties.

This unfortunate event comes on the heels of a previous lone crash late April along the Ogere Remo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two lives and left five others injured.
