The new Congolese Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa, is still engaged in consultations for the formation of her government. More than 22 days after her appointment as head of government, she has completed meetings with various political groups. On Monday, April 22nd, she met with members of civil society, trade unions, the National Youth Council, the press union, teachers’ association, and others.

Prime Minister Judith Suminwa aims to establish a lean government, limiting its size to 45 members, including ministers and deputy ministers. The previous government comprised 57 members. According to well-informed sources, she also emphasizes promoting gender parity and introducing new political figures.

The adopted formula stipulates that a political group must have at least ten national deputies to qualify for a ministry, aligning her ambitions with those of Félix Tshisekedi, who advocates for the renewal of personalities in the government and better female representation.

Another struggle is emerging over the space allocated to civil society in this new government. Meanwhile, the concerned political coalitions have already begun submitting lists of their candidates.

Several close associates of Félix Tshisekedi assert that the composition of this new government may be finalized by the end of the month or early May, at the latest.
