President Bola Tinubu has lauded the remarkable achievement of Chess maestro, Tunde Onakoya, for establishing a new world chess record. Tinubu expressed his appreciation to Onakoya for showcasing Nigeria’s resilience, self-belief, and ingenuity on the global stage.

In a statement released by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Saturday, titled ‘President Tinubu congratulates Tunde Onakoya on new world chess record,’ the Presidency extended its felicitations to the accomplished chess player.

Onakoya shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon on Saturday, engaging in uninterrupted play for over 58 hours. His monumental feat occurred during a marathon event held at New York’s Times Square, where he surpassed the record previously held by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad in 2018.

This extraordinary accomplishment not only reflects Onakoya’s exceptional skill and determination but also serves as a testament to Nigeria’s prowess on the global stage.
