EFCC Investigates Celebrities for Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it is conducting investigations into several celebrities suspected of engaging in Naira abuse, as revealed in a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Sunday.

Oyewale stated that the commission has summoned numerous celebrities for questioning, and they have provided valuable information during the interrogation process.

The EFCC underscored its awareness of viral videos circulating online, depicting individuals involved in acts of Naira abuse. The anti-graft agency praised the public for their vigilance in safeguarding the integrity of the national currency, highlighting a collective effort in combating financial misconduct.

Regarding the commission’s efforts against Naira abuse, dollarization of the economy, and the enforcement of relevant laws, the statement acknowledged the public’s heightened awareness, support, and involvement.

“The Commission appreciates the increasing consciousness of the public regarding the sanctity of our national currency and the necessity for collaborative engagement to uphold its integrity,” the statement reads.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in Naira abuse. While acknowledging the resurfacing of old videos, the commission emphasized its focus on recent infractions, noting that its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the Economy commenced operations on February 7, 2024.

The EFCC affirmed its unwavering dedication to a no-sacred-cow approach in its operations, cautioning the public to avoid violating laws against financial crimes.
