Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology in Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, has sadly passed away after a brief illness in an undisclosed Nigerian hospital.

Onu, a former governor of Abia State, was a prominent Nigerian politician, author, and engineer until his untimely demise in April 2024.

The late 72-year-old, who had a distinguished political career, notably contested for the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections. However, he lost to President Bola Tinubu.

Onu served as the first civilian governor of Abia State and held the position of Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Nigeria from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022.

Throughout his tenure, Onu made significant contributions to the development of science and technology in Nigeria, leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s progress in these crucial sectors.
