Gbolahan Olugbemi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police assigned to the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (FCIID), has reportedly committed suicide in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The body of DCP Olugbemi, who had previously served as an aide to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, was discovered in his apartment with a noose around his neck, indicating suicide.

While a comprehensive investigation is pending to determine the exact cause of his death, preliminary indications suggest suicide, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The deceased, DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi, had returned home for the Easter holiday and was alone upon arrival at his residence on Petros Academy Street, Federal Low-Cost Area.

Reportedly in his early 50s, DCP Olugbemi had served as the Aide De Camp to the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala during the latter’s eleven-month tenure from 2006 to 2007.

Following the discovery of his body, DCP Olugbemi’s residence has been cordoned off, with sympathizers gathering to mourn the tragic loss of the respected officer.

A neighbor of the deceased mentioned, “Sometimes, he arrived home with police security. Indeed, I recently observed him driving into his splendid mansion.”

“It was only him we saw around. His family was not often seen with him,” the neighbor added.

The source further revealed that DCP Olugbemi had been grappling with depression for a considerable period.

Recognized for his effective policing, he was recommended for commendation for his handling of the ENDSARS protests in 2020.
