A group of armed men carried out a brazen attack on Saturday, targeting and looting a luxury bus at Oke Ado Junction in Ijebu-Mushin, situated along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway.

Reports indicate that the passengers were en route to the southeast to celebrate Easter when the incident unfolded.

After successfully robbing the passengers, the assailants opted to set the bus ablaze, compounding the ordeal for the stranded travelers.

Confirming the distressing event, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, stated, “The incident occurred at Oke Ado junction in Ijebu Mushin. A luxury Mercedes Benz bus was set on fire. The vehicle was traveling from Maza Maza before encountering the hoodlums. No firearms were mentioned; the hoodlums were armed with cutlasses.”

The bus, capable of seating 59 individuals, was operated by Ifesinachi Transport Limited.

In a video circulated on social media by Chude Nnamdi, affected passengers recounted their harrowing experience, detailing how they were accosted by the bandits who not only stole their possessions but also resorted to setting the bus ablaze.

One of the passengers lamented, “We were traveling with Ifesinachi Motors to return to the East for Easter celebration when criminals attacked us in Ijebu Ode along the Ore-Benin Expressway. They robbed us of everything we had, some were even stripped half-naked. They locked us inside the luxury bus and set it ablaze. Although no lives were lost, we were left with nothing as our belongings were forcibly taken from us. Some sustained injuries during the ordeal, with individuals being macheted or sustaining broken limbs. Among us are also children, further adding to the gravity of the situation.”
