According to the list of candidates released by the Constitutional Court, there will be 2,350 candidates vying for 113 seats in the upcoming legislative elections.

The court was seized on March 15 to review the conformity of the candidacies. 19 political parties, 60 independent groups, and 2 groups of political parties are participating in this election scheduled for April 20. The list of candidates for regional elections is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.

With the publication of the lists, the electoral process is gradually entering its final stages. However, impatience is growing within political party headquarters. The party coalition, Alliance Together, denounces the time taken by the Constitutional Court to make the lists public. “They worked hastily without considering the timeline,” stated Me Tchassona Traoré, adding that there are name errors on some lists.

Brigitte Kafui Adjamagbo-Johnson echoes similar sentiments by criticizing the slow pace of work by the Constitutional Court. They waited until the eve of the deadline to unveil the lists. “We observe an abundance of independent lists aimed at obstructing the opposition,” she lamented.

Paul Dodzi Apévon of the Democratic Forces for the Republic expresses concern about the organization of the election itself. With the list of candidates just being published, there is an additional worry for some of them to mobilize funds by Monday at 5:00 p.m. to pay their deposit.
