In response to an attack resulting in the deaths of 23 soldiers during the night of Wednesday, March 20th to Thursday, March 21st, 2024, a three-day national mourning period has been declared in Niger, commencing today.

This declaration comes as per an announcement from the Ministry of Defense. The attack occurred during a sweep operation between the localities of Teguey and Bankilaré, situated in the Tillabéri region, where the army fell into an ambush led by over a hundred terrorists aboard vehicles and motorcycles, according to the official statement.
