In a letter addressed to the legislators and read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Thursday’s plenary session, President Tinubu underscored the importance of the proposed legislation.

The letter, by Section 58(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), presents The Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 for the House’s deliberation.

“The Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 aims to bolster the implementation of the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme by tackling issues concerning the management structure of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF), eligibility criteria for applicants, loan allocation, funding sources, and disbursement and repayment protocols,” the letter stated.

President Tinubu expressed his anticipation for the House of Representatives to give prompt attention to the bill, as it pertains to the advancement of higher education accessibility in Nigeria.

“While trusting in the House’s customary expeditious handling of such matters, I extend my utmost gratitude, Rt. Honourable Speaker, for your attention to this submission,” Speaker Abbas read aloud from the letter during the session.
