In another brazen attack, armed assailants suspected to be kidnappers targeted the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Ituku Ozalla, Enugu State, on Tuesday morning.

This incident follows a similar attack earlier this year when a resident doctor was abducted from the hospital premises but managed to escape from the kidnappers’ grasp.

According to reports gathered by Vanguard, the gunmen allegedly abducted a female deputy director of the hospital along with security personnel. A distressing video circulating online showed an abandoned SUV, purportedly belonging to the abducted woman, bearing bullet holes on the front passenger side.

As of the time of compiling this report, neither the police nor the hospital management have officially confirmed the incident.

However, a reliable source familiar with the matter confirmed that the abduction occurred at the same location where a medical doctor was kidnapped a few weeks prior.

“This is a distressing situation, our safety within the hospital premises is severely compromised. We are vulnerable,” lamented a concerned staff member.

The recurrence of such attacks underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard the lives and well-being of both staff and patients at the UNTH. It also highlights the broader issue of insecurity plaguing certain regions, necessitating concerted efforts from relevant authorities to address the root causes and ensure the safety of citizens.
