Local authorities reported that on Friday, six individuals tragically drowned while attempting to immigrate illegally from the coast of the town of Laazzanene in the province of Nador.

As per the same source, a group of 54 candidates for illegal immigration, including one individual of Tunisian nationality, attempted to swim towards a zodiac boat positioned off the coast near El Kallat beach in the municipality of Iaazzanene. Unfortunately, challenging weather conditions, high waves, and the smuggler’s inability to maneuver the boat after it collided with rocks resulted in the tragic drowning of six people. However, 48 others were able to reach the shore safely.

As soon as they were informed, the local authorities and the services of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection, accompanied by medical teams, intervened to provide first aid to these people, retrieve the bodies and scour the region in search of other victims.

According to the same source, an investigation into the incident was conducted by members of the Royal Gendarmerie, under the careful oversight of the competent prosecutor’s office. The primary aim of this investigation is to uncover the circumstances surrounding the case and ascertain the potential implications of this criminal activity.
