According to a statement released on April 26th, the president of the French right-wing party “the Republicans”, Eric Ciotti, will lead a delegation to visit Morocco from May 3rd to 5th. This comes as the multifaceted crisis between Rabat and Paris has been escalating for many months, and the Elysée continues to cultivate its affinity towards Algeria, which unilaterally severed diplomatic ties with the Kingdom.

“This visit reaffirms our political family’s commitment to the friendship between our two countries. It follows a rich history between the Cherifian Kingdom and the Gaullist family, marked by the historical bond that brought General de Gaulle and King Mohammed V, a companion of the Liberation, closer together,” the statement read.

It also added, “This friendship is a relationship of fraternity and responsibility that unites the French and the Moroccans, not only around a shared past but also around a shared concern for ensuring stability and prosperity around the Mediterranean. A concern for security and progress carried today with ambition by King Mohammed VI, an essential interlocutor in Mediterranean issues.”

“We must strengthen, together, this relationship of the future, which is as useful to France and Morocco as it is to Africa and Europe,” the statement concluded.
