The Director of the Centre for the Study of Information Science and Technology (CESTI) of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), Mamadou Ndiaye announced on Monday that a network of African journalism schools will be created in the coming days.

This announcement was made on the sidelines of the first African meeting of journalism and communication training institutions. The main objective is to establish partnerships and exchange links between African journalism schools.

The director of CESTI added that African journalism schools take part in international networks and that an initiative to federate them into a single network is a first.

The conditions for the implementation of this project will be discussed today, according to the director. This network will promote South-South cooperation and partnerships between African journalism schools.

CESTI, a reference school for the training of journalists, present since 1965, will make its experience available to other African schools, said the school’s director.

For his part, the director of the Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC) of Morocco, Abdellatif Bensfia said that African journalism schools have the ambition to put in place an African pedagogical reference system for journalism education.
